I'm Jimmy,
During my 40 years in the photography business I have worked with everyone from Miles Davis to the Ramones. I moved to California to study at San Diego State University where I graduated with a Bachelor's in Business Management. After college I shot my way through many long road-trips and rock concerts armed with my first real camera. A one-hundred dollar Minolta!
I’m a self-taught photographer though I cite photographer Richard Avedon and cinematographer Karl Freund among my strongest influences. My unique photographic style conveys the personality of my subjects.
As a live action photographer I was first published in 1985 in SPIN magazine. In that same year Rolling Stone published one of my photographs of Madonna which was a major boost to my career.
In 1986 my dreams as a music fan and photographer came true when Rolling Stone magazine published my photo of Bob Dylan. CD covers followed from this exposure: Miles Davis, Willie Nelson, John Denver, Dee Dee Ramone and many others. Time magazine, The L.A. Times and 100s of other publications have run my photos.
I’ve done photography for feature Films and T.V. I’ve also produced, directed and performed in music videos and movies. I’ve been interviewed on PBS and many other T.V. and Radio programs. I’ve published two books of my music photography “Rock ’N’ Roll Lens" and am working now on my third book “Hitchcock’s Shadow-Conversations With The Great Directors."
My Southern California studio is my base of operations and has become a haven for music, film and television artists. In 1998 and again in 2007 industry players recognized my work and named me Photographer of the Year at the Los Angeles Music Awards.
I won the Best Music Video for 2014 at the New Media Film Festival Los Angeles. I received the Best of L.A. Award in 2017. I have had major solo exhibits of my work in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, La Quinta, and Minneapolis. I was part of the internationally recognized group exhibit Who Shot Rock & Roll at the Annenberg Space For Photography. I’m an ambassador for Leica cameras.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
